An accounting practice needs support that understands how its tools interact during ordinary work and deadline periods. Naming tax software on a webpage is not proof that a provider can support your particular configuration.
Map the application environment
List the editions and hosting arrangements for QuickBooks, CCH products, Drake, UltraTax, document management, client portals, and other business applications you use. Some functions may be vendor-hosted; others may depend on desktops, remote access, identity, storage, printers, or scanners.
Ask the provider to identify what they support directly, what requires the software vendor, and who owns coordination when the source of a problem is unclear. Confirm licensing and administrative access before an emergency.
Plan for the workload that matters
Review seasonal staffing, secure access to client records, large document transfers, scan-to-email workflows, and filing deadlines. Establish change windows, escalation, and backup coverage around those activities. Do not assume a generic onboarding checklist captures every busy-season dependency.
For tax preparation firms, address the WISP and applicable FTC Safeguards Rule responsibilities with qualified advisers. Use the dedicated WISP article rather than treating compliance as an application feature. [S06]
Request relevant proof
Ask for an approved reference, a sanitized example of a similar workflow, and the names or roles responsible for specialist support. Blue Tree Technology®'s supported applications, versions, vendor relationships, and response commitments must be confirmed in the proposed scope. The examples above do not establish certification in, or universal support for, every product listed.
